What is a Recharge Room?
When we heard that Mt.Sinai Hospital in NYC created a room that was created for frontline workers during the height of the pandemic, we weren’t surprised. Noting the studies behind the positive relaxing impact that nature has on the brain and the body. The mounting science and data between natural environments and stress reduction was the reason it was created. This is actually called biophilia and biophilic design.
Rewind to the fall of 2018. We were creating relaxing stations/ tents at corporations around NYC. Inside the tent housed plants, a fake fireplace but we had sounds of the crackling fire, and evening sounds of a breeze and crickets outside of the tent. We infused relaxing scents into the air. Carpets, loungers with blankets and pillows were also available. All around the tent outside were 15 foot video screens of nature landscapes. This specific activation was in the middle of Times Square. People could come in to take 15 minute breaks “in nature” at work to recharge.
Since the pandemic, I have been able to help people understand the true real impact of “rewilding” our indoor spaces for better health. From homes, to apartments, to offices, and retail locations, biophilia and biophilic design is finally at the forefront of so many minds. Nature indoors is the key to a healthier person, family, team, employees, and customers, it’s the future.
While I am chatting all things indoors, don’t forget the real true overall health benefits are within the natural world so don’t forget to #GetOutside today. Also, don’t forget we have our podcast, Biophilic Solutions, which touches on all of the above and so much more.
